The Challenge

Perle is a human-in-the-loop AI startup specializing in multi-modal data labeling to train and deliver high-quality datasets. Perle Labs, its gamified Web3 branch, was created to engage a younger audience by turning data labeling into a rewarding experience.

The main challenge was defining who our audience truly was—and how to communicate with them effectively. Early on, our design direction was heavily influenced by internal perspectives from Web3 enthusiasts within the company. As a result, the platform’s tone and visual style shifted multiple times as we searched for the right identity that would connect with real users.

The Solution

We learned to slow down while moving fast. Instead of continuing to design based on assumptions, we took a step back to run user research and speak directly with our target audience. These conversations helped us uncover what resonated with them, align the tone and aesthetic of the product, and design a platform that felt authentic to the community we wanted to reach.
